ABILITY TO PRIORITIZE - SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP TRAINING, MODULE 3

MODULE OBJECTIVES – WHAT CAN YOU LEARN FROM THIS MODULE?

You will be able:

  • to define procrastination.
  • to differentiate between being effective and being efficient.
  • to understand the importance of reasoning (why?) in making decisions regarding your goals and objectives. 
  • to know how to use the ability to prioritize in making important decisions.
  • to be more efficient at work, using time management tools.

The module will focus on:

  • What procrastination is.
  • The ability to prioritize. Introduction.
  • Challenges in time management.
  • Planning, organizing, and prioritizing effectively.
  • The action plan – how to use the ability to prioritize in personal projects.
  • Tips for the effective time management.
LEARNING STEPS:

1. Watch the following video on Procrastination.

Task 1:

Using your critical thinkig and willingness to explore abilities, answer to the following questions:

  • What is procastination? (Use your own words).
  • What do you think about the next statements? Do you agree with these? Why or why not?

„If the highest-cost stage comes first, naive people will either complete the project or never start, whereas if the highest-cost stage occurs later, they might start the project but never finish“.

„Self-control problems reduce performance. Moreover, sophistication about one’s own self-control problems not necessarily leads to better performance than naiveté“.

3. Whatch the following videos prepared by UNED:

  • The ability to prioritize. Introduction.
  • Time management challenges.
  • Planning, organization and control process to prioritize effectively.
  • The action plan. How to use the ability to prioritize to improve your individual projects.
  • Tips for effective time management.

Task 2:

Set your business project’s goal and objectives. Then list the tasks and activities necessary for reaching these objectives. Use the template below for this task, as an example.

 Task 3:

Prioritize the activities you decided upon for reaching your objectives and goal, using the Eisenhower Matrix. Use the template below for this task, as an example.

Task 4:

For one week, plan and record everything you do, concerning your project. Plan first, and then record how much time each activity takes. You can use any weekly planner you might find on the web.

After one week, reflect on how good you managed to plan and implement your plan. Also, think about how to optimize your time, taking into consideration also the other actvities you were involved in.

Final task:

Watch the following video and answer to the following questions:

  • What do you think is Rory Vaden’s contribution on ability to prioritize?
  • To what extent do you think his view on time management can be useful for social entrepreneruship projects?
