MODULE OBJECTIVES – WHAT CAN YOU LEARN FROM THIS MODULE?
You will be able:
- to understand the value of taking risk in the entrepreneurial world.
- to understand the taking initiative process.
- to value the importance of personal initiative and active performance in nowadays.
The module will focus on:
- Defining initiative and ability to take the initiative.
- Qualities of succesfull entrepreneurs.
- How to develop your ability to take initiative.
LEARNING STEPS:
1. Watch the following video:
Task 1:
Write a text explaining what Cecilia Adabie means when she says that the greatest risk in our world is not take a risk.
2. Read the following articles:
A. Frohman, Igniting organizational change from below: The power of personal initiative, 1997.
Task 2:
Based on the texts read, develop a 1500-word essay, answering the following questions:
- What is the importance of personal initiative and active performance in today’s entrepreneurship world?
- What are the factors involved in the development of the ability to take initiative?
3. Read the introductory text on Ability to take initiative.
Task 3:
Discuss with one of your friends about an ambitious entrepreneur that you know he / she has been successful.
Task 4:
Read the Top 30 Social Entrepreneurs Forbes‘ List, checking entrepreneurs‘ profiles and their companies‘ website. Find the commonalities between the entrepreneurs and their businesses, and write a short article about the common things you identified.
Task 5:
Watch the video-examples of social entrepreneurs and their ideas, from the following link: Calling all Change-Makers.
Choose one case from the list, and analyze it answering to the following questions:
- How does the case you chose connect to the ability to take initiative?
- What was / were the risk/s the entrepreneur took to start its social enterprise?
- What are the similarities and the differences between the entrepreneur you chose and the standard profile of the entrepreneur described in the introductory text on Ability to take initiative?
